InfoRep. Betty L. Thompson, a Democrat, represents part of St. Louis County (District 72) in the Missouri House of Representatives.

She was first elected to the House in a special election in August 1997.

In addition to her legislative duties, Rep. Thompson is owner of K&M Delivery Service. She previously was employed for six years with the St. Louis County Government and also worked for 26 years with the Human Development Corporation. She performed community service as the host of a radio program on KATZ and KIRL for over 25 years.

Rep. Thompson is a member of the following organizations: NAACP; Better Family Life; president, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St. Louis Support Group; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission; past president, Women in Municipal Government; and past president, PTO. Rep. Thompson also served for 18 years on the University City Council. She attends Northern Missionary Baptist Church.

Rep. Thompson has received numerous awards for her community involvement including: the Gwen Giles Award; Drum Major Peace award by the Clergy Coalition; and the St. Louis Caring Communities Humanitarian award. She was also the recipient of the 1999 Outstanding Legislative Mother of the Year award from the Senate. Other honors include: KMOX and Suburban Journal Women of Achievement award; Human Development Corporation Community Service award; Ernest and DeVerne Lee Calloway award and the 1999 Martin Luther King Leadership award from the St. Louis MLK support group. Rep. Thompson has also been recognized by the River Front Times newspaper, 1999 Best of St. Louis as Politician of the Year and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as one of the Outstanding Women in Leadership.

A 1958 graduate of Sumner High School, Rep. Thompson received a certificate of business from Hubbards Business College and a certificate of managerial management from Washington University. She also attended Harris Stowe State College.

Born December 3, 1939, Rep. Thompson has spent the majority of her life in Missouri and currently resides in University City with her husband Jack. They have four children, Anthony, Tyrone, Sonja and Kwame
