InfoChristy Peter Mihos

Ran unsuccessfully for Governor in 2010, losing the GOP nomination at the GOP state convention to Charles D. "Charlie" Baker, Jr.-R.

Christy Mihos is a devoted father and husband, a successful business owner, a long-time political activist, and a dear friend of Massachusetts taxpayers.

A lifelong resident of the Bay State, Christy was born and raised in the City of Champions. After graduating from Brockton High School, he headed down the road to study management at Stonehill College in Easton. Christy paid his way through college by playing the saxophone, bass guitar, clarinet, and bouzouki (a long-necked mandolin) at Greek weddings.

At his cousin’s wedding in Peabody, Christy met Andrea Argeros, who became his wife three years later. Today, Christy and Andrea have been married for over 31 years, have two beautiful children and reside on Cape Cod in West Yarmouth.

In 1934, Christy’s grandfather—an immigrant—founded a convenience store in Brockton. Christy and his brother took over the stores from their father in the late 1970s. Together, they quadrupled the number of stores. Christy’s Markets became New England’s largest convenience store chain, with 142 stores. In 1998, Christy and his brother sold all but ten Cape stores to 7-Eleven. Since then, Christy has developed five additional stores on the Cape.

Christy first became a candidate for political office in 1990, when he ran for the South Shore Massachusetts Senate seat and lost by a three votes.

In 1998, Christy was appointed to the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, where he served as Vice Chairman and Director. At the Turnpike, Christy fought for the citizens of the Commonwealth and against unnecessary toll increases, special interests and Big Dig fraud, waste, and corruption. Despite opposition from special interests and the Acting Governor, Christy refused to back down. Christy’s actions protecting the citizenry were vindicated by a landmark decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.

Christy was known for his creative business ideas at the Turnpike, where he proposed selling service area lease revenues to allow the Turnpike to take down the tolls from Weston to the New York and restructuring management at the Big Dig. Christy intends to remove these tolls as Governor.

Christy’s civic life extends beyond his time on the Turnpike Authority. Christy has served on the boards of a number of organizations, including the University of Massachusetts, the Boys and Girls Club of Brockton, the South Shore Greek Orthodox Church, and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce.

Christy is proud to live in the Bay State, but knows the voice of the people is no longer being heard on Beacon Hill. And for Massachusetts to succeed, everyone must have a voice, because the Bay State needs to serve all families and communities. Only Christy has the ideas, the integrity, and the independence to be Massachusetts’ next Governor.
