Info | Diane D. Denish was the first woman to be elected Lieutenant Governor in New Mexico on November 5, 2002. She took office on January 1, 2003.
A lifelong New Mexican, Diane is the daughter of Libby Donley, a native of Carlsbad, and Jack Daniels, a New Mexico businessman and former State Representative. Raised in Hobbs, Diane has lived in Farmington and currently resides in Albuquerque. She is the former chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico and for twelve years owned The Target Group, a successful small business specializing in research and fundraising.
Named one of the Top 100 New Mexicans in honor of her community leadership, Diane has served as chair of New Mexico First, chair of the New Mexico Community Foundation and Chair of the New Mexico Tech Board of Regents. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Daniels Fund, which supports early childhood education and other youth programs in New Mexico and the western United States. The National Kidney Foundation, the YWCA, and the Albuquerque Arts Alliance have honored her for her achievements in public service.
Diane also served under Governor Toney Anaya as chair of the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women and was appointed by then Congressman Bill Richardson to serve on the National Advisory Board of the Small Business Administration.
Diane is married to Herb Denish and is the mother of three grown children: Suzanne, Spencer and Sara. She recently became a grandmother for the first time
