Info | Mary was born in Nixon Country - Whittier, California, and raised in San Diego. Mary's early years were greatly influenced by her deep admiration for her Republican grandfather. Hence, when she reached voting age she became a Republican.
Over the years, Mary began to question the politics of the GOP. She considered voting non-Republican for the first time while studying for her bachelor's degree at Antioch University in Los Angeles. Her support officially shifted when she voted for Ross Perot for president in 1992. Soon she began to consider herself a Democrat and decided to back Bill Clinton in 1996.
Mary started her own small business, an insurance agency in 1987 after working for two Farmers agents over a period of five years. Never losing sight of her desire for a strong education, she took classes while working, and in 1992 graduated cum laude from LA Valley College with an associate's degree in liberal arts. She continued on to finish a bachelor's degree in 1994, and in less than two years graduated with a master's degree in Psychology. Both degrees were received from Antioch University Los Angeles. In 1997, when her second daughter was born, she decided to sell her insurance business so that she could devote more time with her two girls.
An active mother, Mary became involved in her daughters' school, serving on the Learn Board and Governance Board. Her entry into local politics came in 2000, when she supported Al Gore to ensure that the leadership and direction of the Clinton White House continued.
As the neo-conservatives consolidated power, and systematically corrupted many of the important elements of the American ideals as well the party of her grandfather, Mary was determined to stay active in politics. She joined Valley West Democratic Club and then joined Valley Democrats United, where she currently serves as president. As a founding member of Valley for Kerry Steering Committee, Mary helped launch meet-ups throughout the Valley, assisted with voter registration and spoke at several house parties to raise money for Kerry. She was appointed to the Ventura County Commission for Women where she currently serves as a Commissioner. She is also serving on the Organizational Development Committee with the California Democratic Party. She ran as a delegate for the 41st Assembly district where she now serves until 2007.
Mary has been with her husband Andrew, a small business owner, for 14 years. They have two daughters, Anastasia (twelve) and Carina (eight), and a cat named Sizzle. Their yellow Lab Nuzzle, who was a member of the family for 10 years, recently passed away. Mary has lived her entire life in California and resides in Oak Park.
