Gazette 1910-1918; United States commissioner at Wasta, S.Dak., 1910-1913; member of the State senate in 1911; appointed by President Wilson as receiver of public moneys of the United States land office at Rapid City and served from July 16, 1913, to March 3, 1915; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fourth, Sixty-fifth, and Sixty-sixth Congresses (March 4, 1915-March 3, 1921); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1920 to the Sixty-seventh Congress; engaged in agricultural pursuits and in the raising of livestock near Wasta, S.Dak., 1910-1945; executive secretary of the National Coal Association, Washington, D.C., 1923-1930; connected with subsidiary companies of the Pittston Co., 1930-1937; chairman, Bituminous Coal Producers Board, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1937-1940; assistant to the president, Elk River Coal & Lumber Co. and Buffalo Creek & Gauley Railroad Co., Widen, W.Va., from 1944 until his retirement; died in Los Gatos, Calif., August 15, 1957; interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City, S.Dak.
