InfoPOLK, Albert Fawcett, a Representative from Delaware; born in Frederica, Kent County, Del., October 11, 1869; attended public and private schools; was graduated from Delaware College (now the University of Delaware), Newark, Del., in 1889; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1892 and began practice in Georgetown, Del.; attorney for the Delaware State senate in 1899; chairman of the Democratic county committee of Sussex County 1902-1908, 1915, and 1916; also a member of the Democratic State committee during the same periods; member of the Georgetown Board of Education 1905-1912; member and secretary of the Board of Law Examiners of Sussex County 1914-1921; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1917-March 3, 1919); was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1918 to the Sixty-sixth Congress; resumed the practice of law; moved to Wilmington, Del., in 1921 and continued the practice of his profession; appointed United States Commissioner for the district of Delaware in 1929 and served until his retirement in 1951; died in Wilmington, Del., on February 14, 1955; interment in Union Cemetery, Georgetown, Del.
