InfoAnn Melichar was born in Cook County, Illinois and spent her childhood in Riverside, attending the local public elementary and junior high schools. Her family moved to downtown Chicago and she attended St. Ignatius College Prep, where she graduated with honors. Ann earned her B.A. from the University of Iowa in Literature, Science and the Arts with an emphasis in European Civilization and earned a B.F.A. from the International Academy (Chicago) in Interior Design.

Ann has worked at Carson Pirie Scott on State Street and Marshall Field’s on State Street. At Carson Pirie Scott, she was one of youngest managers having been promoted from seasonal part time sales associate to assistant manager to manager within one and a half years. She also has worked many positions in the restaurant industry ranging from line cook, to hostess, to manager in establishments ranging from yogurt kiosk to fine dining.

Ann interned at Archeworks, an alternative design school and “do tank”, where she on a team project to address multigenerational low-income housing for persons with a disability.

Ann earned her J.D. and LL.M. (masters) in Real Estate from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. While in law school, she practiced under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 license at The John Marshall Law School Fair Housing Legal Clinic, representing numerous clients by negotiating a settlement, wrote and argued motions, wrote complaints, developed research materials for the clinic, and co-authored a Friend of the Court brief to the United States Court of Appeals Seventh Circuit. After admittance to the Illinois bar, she supervised students reviewing mortgage documents for consumers to avoid predatory lending practices under new grants from Fannie Mae and the City of Chicago (Community Development Block Grant).

Ann was Volunteer of the Year for Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois. She was founding secretary and later chair and vice chair of the junior board of a residential treatment facility for severely abused and neglected children. She also has been a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and has been a collegiate advisory board member and officer in the local alumnae chapter. Ann is a member of five bar associations and an officer of one.

Ann has lived in Logan Square for the last eight years and has served as an election judge for several elections. Her maternal great-grandparents lived in the district, as did her mother as a child. Her father attended the local public high school of part of the district.
