InfoJhim Burwell is proud to be the Liberal candidate in Kootenay-Columbia.

Mr. Burwell was born in Welland, Ontario, into a family with a long federal Liberal tradition. He was very active as a young liberal, having worked on several federal Liberal campaigns, but moved away from political life when he started his career as a journalist.

Four and a half years ago Mr. Burwell moved to Fernie, B.C. to take up the editor’s position at The Free Press and Elk Valley Miner community newspapers. While in that office he learned a great deal about the people of Kootenay-Columbia, and how important they are in the Canadian tapestry.

Mr. Burwell left The Free Press to pursue self-employment as a writer and photographer, and currently holds a part-time job at the Fernie Aquatic Centre. He is also very proud of his position as an auxiliary firefighter and first-responder with Fernie Fire Rescue.

Mr. Burwell will focus on the interests of the good people of Kootenay-Columbia in the House of Commons, ensuring their voice is heard in caucus and Parliament. Other issues he intends advocate are the strength of our social infrastructure, accountability in government, a strong sense of Canadian heritage and addressing (and repairing) the sense of disconnect Western Canadians feel from Ottawa.

Jhim’s wife Heather is an RCMP constable, and a very important part of his team for her support and involvement in his campaign. They met in Fernie shortly after he arrived and were married in 2003. Michael Wallace, their first child, was born in July 2005.
