InfoBorn and raised in Moncton, Brian Murphy obtained his BA from Dalhousie University in 1982. A frequent post-graduate French Immersion student at Université de Moncton and agencies in Quebec Mr. Murphy is a champion of Moncton’s Alliance Française.

Mr. Murphy graduated from UNB in 1985, and worked for law firms in Toronto until his return to Moncton in 1990. Mr. Murphy was elected to Moncton City Council in 1992 where he served the residents of Moncton’s east end until 1998.

Mr. Murphy became Mayor of Moncton in 1998 and set out on a record of change. Presiding over Moncton during a period of unprecedented growth, council was nonetheless able to maintain the tax rate at the same level during his first 5 years of office.

Since leaving office in 2004, Brian has served as the New Brunswick President of the Canadian Unity Counsel (CUC), which works on issues of unity and voter antipathy to the democratic process.

In addition, Mr. Murphy chaired the $2.3 million New Brunswick Foundation for the Arts Stabilization Fund Drive, was part of the Moncton Hospital’s “Healthy Returns” Campaign and the Roman Catholic Archdiocesan Fundraising Drive.

Mr. Murphy is a co-founder of groupe Murphy group, a new law firm geared towards Business Development, Land Use Planning and general Commercial Law and Litigation. The firm has over 50 combined years at the bar and a great deal of governmental, public and international experience.

Brian is married to Jacqueline. Together they have three girls, Maeve (9), Megan (8) and Bronwyn (6) and reside in the West End of Moncton.
