InfoFirst elected in January 2006, Gary Merasty is a proud member of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation. Currently serving a second term as Grand Chief of the Prince Albert Grand Council, Mr. Merasty works tirelessly on behalf of his constituents and the residents of Northern Saskatchewan. Mr. Merasty is the Associate Critic for Indian Affairs.

Mr. Merasty has made many contributions that have improved the social, political, and economic well-being of Saskatchewan. He currently serves as Chairman for both the Prince Albert Development Corporation and West Wind Aviation Limited Partnership, and has also participated in numerous boards and committees, such as the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology, the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, the Saskatoon Airport Authority, the Saskatchewan Campaign for the University of Saskatchewan and the Dakota Dunes Golf and Country Club Limited Partnership.

With strong skills as a community advocate, Mr. Merasty’s career has brought him to the public forum where he has been an advocate for improved education, health care and infrastructure for northern development. He is a recipient of both the Queen's Golden Jubilee medal and the Saskatchewan Centennial medal for his service to the people of Saskatchewan.

Mr. Merasty has also spent time playing junior hockey and worked for the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company in Flin Flon, Manitoba, for three years.

He is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan's Indian Teacher Education Program in 1991 and received a Masters of Education in 2003.
