InfoResidents of California's 50th Congressional District deserve a representative they can be proud of again - a Representative with the moral courage to stand up for our interests and set a higher standard for ethical conduct.

Richard Earnest is a highly decorated fighter pilot who flew 300 missions over Vietnam and went on to become a pioneer in California's high-tech computer industry, where he served as Chief Executive Officer and on the Boards of Directors of numerous companies. He's also a former Mayor and City Councilman in Del Mar, where he and his wife, Jackee, have lived since 1989. He and Jackee are the proud parents of two grown children and have one young grandson.

The son of a steel worker from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Richard Earnest was the first in his family to go to college, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he played varsity baseball and football, including the national championship football game in the Cotton Bowl in 1964 along with Hall of Famer Roger Staubach. Later, he went on to earn a Master of Science degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.

After successfully completing flight training at the Naval Air Station in Miramar, he joined a fighter squadron in January of 1967 and flew over 300 combat missions over three tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, 21 Air Medals, 2 Navy Commendation Medals with Combat "V", and numerous campaign ribbons.

As CEO of leading high-tech companies, Richard Earnest quickly gained a reputation for saving and reinvigorating operations, reshaping their strategic direction and building teamwork - and for saving jobs. If elected, he will be the only Representative from California who has built or run a company on the frontier of computer science.

Richard Earnest served as President and Chief Operating Officer of VM Software, which he grew from a $2 million to a $50 million company and took public on the New York Stock Exchange. He also served as CEO of Peregrine Systems, Demax Software, Tudor Publishing, Data Critical Corporation, and Xperius, Inc.

He is co-founder and past Chairman of the International Forum for Corporate Directors in San Diego; a Managing Director of ADAPSO National High Technology Industry Association; a founding member in San Diego Chairman's RoundTable, and founder, Chairman and CEO of AdvantEdge Systems of San Diego. He serves on the boards of RSA Security (RSAS:NASDAQ) of Bedford, Massachusetts; Accessline Inc., of Seattle, Washington; Acucorp of San Diego; and CombineNET of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He's also a founding contributor to the Evoeke Dance Theatre of San Diego, an organization that brings disadvantaged children into the dance world; and he's a continuing contributor to the Boys and Girls Clubs of North County. Jackee Earnest worked to help the homeless women at Rachel's Women Center in San Diego, and also served on the Board of the Evoeke Dance Theatre.
