Info | Edward P. Mangano (R,C,I), is serving his fourth term as Legislator for the 17th District which includes Bethpage, Hicksville, Muttontown, Brookville, East Norwich, and parts of Jericho, Syosset, Plainview, Old Westbury and Oyster Bay. A graduate of Hofstra University and Hofstra School of Law, Ed was admitted into the New York State Bar in 1988.
Ed has worked hard to foster the revitalization of the former Grumman Property. Ed established a Senior Citizen and Community Center in the 17th Legislative District in order to increase residents access to important Nassau County services. Ed assisted in creating a high technology small business incubator, Ed also established a youth program to provide a place for teenagers to gather. Ed was instrumental in restoring Cantaigue Park pools and age-oriented playground area. Ed has been a leader in preserving land to protect our environment and provide open space for future generations In fact, Ed was recognized by the New York League of Conservation Voters for "Working to preserve open space and setting aside $5 million for the acquisition of the (81 acre) Underhill Property" and for "Fighting for Clean Water/Clean Air bond act funding for the purpose of ground water protection" Ed also sponsored legislation resulting in the preservation of the historic 18th Century Jackson/Malcom estate and enlarged the Jericho preserve to 14 acres.
Ed has received many recognition's for his advocacy, including Humanitarian of the Year for Family Residence and Essential Enterprises, LI Business News 40/40 rising star on Long Island, Legislator of the Year Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter #82, Nassau Council Small Business Person of the Year, Hofstra Alumni Estabrook Award; Honoree Children's House Tee-off for Kids, Citizenship Award Knights of Columbus Hartigan Council, Hicksville Youth Council Award and Community Leadership Award Boy Scouts Troop 604.
Ed is active in many charitable and fraternal organizations. Ed has served on the Board of Directors of Children's House, Honorary Trustee Family and Children's Services, Past President Bethpage/Plainview Rotary Club, board member Bethpage Chamber of Commerce, member Northrop/Grumman property development task force, Grumman Master Planning council, Steering Committee Member Long Island Software Technology incubator @ Briarcliffe College, Town of Oyster Bay Youth Advisory Committee, Leadership Council Member L.I. Mentoring Partnership, and the United States Navy Environmental Restoration Advisory Board.
