The mother of four grown children, president of Thomas & Company of Galveston, Inc. and past third term City Council member, Thomas is a Galveston native with deep roots. Thomas has served on dozens of city boards and committees, chief among them being the Galveston Park Board of Trustees, Landmark Commission, Commission for the Arts, Arts and Historical Preservation Board, Broadway Development Commission, East End Flats Release Committee, Finance and Audit Committee, Seawall Overlay Committee, Commission for the Arts, Broadway Overlay Committee, Broadway Beautiful Committee and the Zoning Board of Adjustments.

Thomas has served as Chairman and board member/trustee of the Park Board of Trustees, the Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund, the Mainland Center Hospital Board, the Galveston Partnership for Better Living, the Galveston Neighborhood Housing Initiative, and the Boys & Girls Club of Galveston County.

She is a member of The Chamber of Commerce, The Downtown Historic Strand District, the Galveston Morning Kiwanis and the Downtown Rotary Club.

Her individual philanthropies and those of her family's Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund are numerous, having as their primary focus the needs and aspirations of Galvestonians, the recipients being organizations or individuals that represent Galveston charities and the arts, as well as addressing educational, cultural, environmental, religious and recreational needs.

Her leadership and her unstinting work for the community have not gone unnoticed. She has received many honors, including The Spirit of Elissa Award from Galveston Historical Foundation, The Community Enrichment Award from the Grand 1894 Opera House, the Pacesetter and Quality of Life Awards from Clean Galveston, the People of Vision Award (with her family) from Prevent Blindness, the Brotherhood Award from Reedy Chapel AME Church, and the Helping Hands Award from Public, Incorporated.

Thomas puts her abundant energies into helping to make Galveston a better place to live, work and raise children. Helping to steer the City govemment so that it better serves the needs of the citizens is her number one priority.
