InfoI am a native Californian, born in San Diego, California. As the son of a Naval Officer, while growing up, I traveled and lived in the Philippine Islands, Florida, California, New Jersey, Louisiana, and Texas. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Television Production at San Diego State and an MBA at St. Mary’s College.

I joined the Navy in 1970 at Pensacola, Florida for Naval Flight Training. I became an Aircraft Carrier Jet pilot, and over the course of my career have flown A4 Skyhawks, A7 Corsairs, and A6 Intruders. I served aboard aircraft carriers, the USS Hancock and USS Ranger, deployed in the Western Pacific. I continued my military career in the Naval Reserves at Alameda, California, retiring with 20 years of faithful service in 1994.

I left active duty service to join United Airlines as a pilot and moved to the Tri-Valley area; I have lived in San Ramon, Danville and Alamo since 1978. I have flown with United Airlines for over 25 years and currently serve as Captain of the Boeing 777. At the airline, I became a member of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) and served in various union positions.

I also served the last 4 years as a flight operations manager for United Airlines, helping to assist the work lives of over 1600 pilots. This involved contract administration, dispute mediation, human resources compliance with employment, station operations, staff morale, public contact with group presentations, corporate training, security issues, etc. The position was very high profile and highly political in its nature, as I often had to mediate between the demands of many different parties within the airline. All this has prepared me for where I am today.

I became active politically by helping Ellen Tauscher (D-CA), a moderate Democrat representing California’s 10th Congressional District, to defeat Republican incumbent Bill Baker. I acted as precinct captain for two precincts to get out the vote and was an active participant and supporter in later campaigns. To me, Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher represents the best in what a Member of Congress should be: moderate, practical and, above all, concerned with representing the needs of her constituents before the United States Congress.

My wife Mary and I have four children and recently our first grandchild has joined the family. My wife is an attorney and accomplished jazz singer and I at times have accompanied her on the piano.
