Education is the key to South Carolina’s future and the future of our families and children.
The steep recession has underscored that quality education is essential to our economy. In short, education equals jobs. A child in Seneca, Barnwell, or Conway will compete directly with people in India, China, and Germany. South Carolina will succeed in a tough, competitive global economy only if all South Carolinians have access to an excellent education.
We don’t have a moment or a person to lose. From my work with Dick Riley at the U.S. Department of Education, my work here in South Carolina, and my experience as a public school parent, I know that leadership and focused community effort can make a tremendous difference for all children.
Together, we can extend opportunities to more South Carolinians and build the State we would like South Carolina to be.
