InfoCecile Bledsoe currently represents Benton County in the Arkansas State Senate, where she serves on the Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee, and the Committee on City, County, and Local Affairs. She also Chairs the Public Health – Substance Abuse Treatment Services Subcommmittee, and is Chair of the Task Force on the Effect of Alzheimers Disease.

Prior to serving in the State Senate, Bledsoe ran and was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives. She began her first term in 1999 and returned to the House of Representatives in 2001 and again in 2003. She was not allowed to return due to term limits.

Bledsoe is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a BA degree in Journalism. She has lived in Rogers for almost 30 years with her husband of 36 years, Jim Bledsoe. Jim is a physician who was in a general surgery private practice for almost 28 years in Rogers. As of May 2005, he retired from his private practice and now performs surgery throughout the United States on a contractual basis. They have three married adult children and five grandchildren.

As a state Representative for six years, Bledsoe received grants and appropriations for Our Farm, Inc., the Volunteer Fire Department of Beaver Lake, Rocky Branch Volunteer Fire Department, Northeast Benton County Volunteer Fire Department, and the City of Garfield’s Community Center. She worked toward the development of the Rogers Wellness Center, which included a $200,000 appropriation for the warm water therapy pool. She was instrumental in the development of the Miller Place, an affordable housing unit for senior citizens on 13th Street in Rogers, and the subsequent construction of Dixieland Gardens, located adjacent to the Wellness Center.

Former Representative Bledsoe co-sponsored the tort reform bill (frivolous lawsuits) and served on the Judiciary Committee when the bill became law. Bledsoe sponsored House Bill 1356, which became law. It requires hospitals to make safe retractable needles available to health care workers. Other bills she sponsored include bills on adoption, water resources, health issues relating to body piercing, medical savings accounts, medical student loan program, threats to jurists and judicial officials, and sex crime perpetrators.

Throughout her term, she worked with the entire Northwest Arkansas legislative delegation to secure millions of dollars of new funding for Northwest Arkansas Community College. She strongly supported and worked for the funding of the Veteran’s Nursing Home in Fayetteville.

In addition, Bledsoe served on the following committees as a Representative: Judiciary, Education, Health and Welfare, Insurance and Commerce, State Agencies and Governmental Affairs, Joint Budget, and Joint Performance Review. She was also appointed to several subcommittees including the Juvenile Justice and Child Support Subcommittee and vice-chairman for the Special Language Subcommittee and vice-chairman for the Early Childhood Education Subcommittee. Locally she is serving on the Board of Miller Place, Board of Directors for the Agency on Aging, and is a former board member of the Kendrick Fincher Memorial Foundation and Our Farm, Inc. She is a member of the Benton County Republican Committee, and the Benton County Republican Women. She was a former member of the American Legislative Exchange Commission and Women in Government from 1999 to 2004.
