This ad, entitled "Deal," comes over a year after Crossroads GPS, Karl Rove's shadowy Super PAC, first began running negative spots against Congressman Boswell. Since then, Leonard Boswell has been attacked in misleading ads by American Action Network, the Chamber of Commerce, the Partnership to Protect Social Security and Congressman Latham's campaign.
The Boswell ad focuses on Congressman Tom Latham and his family's bank and their bailout loan. As reported by the Des Moines Register, Congressman Latham voted twice against the bank rescue program but Green Circle Investments, a holding company owned primarily by Congressman Latham and his brothers, applied for and received a $2.4 million TARP loan. Green Circle has yet to pay back any of the principal to the taxpayers. In the article, the current CEO of Green Circle Investments credited the TARP loan with keeping the bank going during the recession.
