Description | CA 29, sponsored by Tim Burgess (former member & President of the City Council & former Interim Mayor), would have forced the City Council to appropriate certain funds to address homelessness in Seattle. Proponents desired forcing the city's hand into action, opponents stated that the tactics mandated under CA 29 would have done more harm than good.
Overall, the courts ruled it to be unlawful due to the sweeping scope of the law.
"In summary, I like this charter amendment as a voter. But as a judge, it cannot stand, and I am required to strike it from the ballot." - Catherine Shaffer, County Superior Court Judge |
