Info I am the eleventh of twelve children and a proud uncle to twenty-seven nieces and nephews. My father, Bill Carney, worked for Republic Steel, which later became LTV Steel, and my mother, Marcy Carney, raised me and my eleven siblings while also dedicating herself to St. Raphael’s parish and serving the elderly and infirmed of our community. I have been married to my wonderful wife, Jennifer Nelson Carney, an attorney at Bricker & Eckler LLP, since 2000.

After graduating from Bay High in Bay Village, Ohio in 1994, I went on to receive my undergraduate and law degrees from Ohio State University in 1998 and 2001, respectively. While at Ohio State, I was president of the Undergraduate Student Government for two terms. Among other accomplishments during my time in student government, I negotiated with COTA to implement a city-wide busing program for all Ohio State students and also founded the student radio station, known as The Underground. I am currently an attorney in the Columbus office of Porter, Wright, Morris & Arthur LLP where I counsel individual and corporate clients regarding a variety of issues primarily related to health care.

In my free time, I have organized the Computer Outreach Program in the Columbus Public Schools. This free, year-round, five-session, basic computer literacy course is open to all community members. The course is offered at nine Columbus Public Schools, three of which are located in the 22nd district (Ridgeview, Medina, and Clinton middle schools). Students of the Outreach Program have ranged in age from 20 to 87 and represent our community’s racial, educational, and economic diversity. Over the past four years, more than 2,000 people have graduated from the class.
