William Shakesman: If it wasn't already clear this senile, glory-hogging old bat needs to retire, it should be now.

The judicial branch is not subordinate to the political needs of the executive.

The OC Dems seem to be the only people on planet earth sticking up for the IRS here. No group should be targeted based on their political leaning, be it conservative, liberal, libertarian, anarchist, socialist, prohibitionist, etc. This is indefensible, and inexcusable. Combine it with Benghazi the AP spying, the slaughter of innocent children with drones, Obama needs to be impeached. NOW. But, they didn't bother to impeach Bush for his crimes, so I have zero faith in that happening.

Being anti-choice does not fit with being a libertarian. That said, this doctor broke the law, these were not legal abortions. If abortion was banned, you'd have cases like this every day.

If working to keep the site alive after it randomly shut down one day equates to being a little too emotional at times, then yes, guilty as charged.

On a more serious note, I have to give Polk credit for setting an agenda and being able to execute it even while pledged to one term. That's impressive.

Also, make sure that the costs of entitlement reform aren't entirely thrown on the back of those of us who are/will be healthcare providers. We seem to be the most politically palatable group to target, but just remember that Medicare (and especially Medicaid) reimbursements to providers often don't cover the cost of the treatment anyway, and further reimbursement cuts (which usually are echoed by private insurance) make it harder for us to run our practices and hospitals.

This is just as repugnant as the image of the President in "tribal" garb with a bone through his nose.

Sesel: It is silly to blame Buchanan for the war.

Please point out where I said that. There is a strong tendency on this site to read too much into what people say.

He was faced with a major crisis, he failed to act in any significant way. The war itself was the result of a complex series of events beyond one man's actions. A more decisive leader may have helped, but that is pure speculation.

Should I read into your reaction and assume you think he was a successful President?

This project addresses a central question in biology. NSF funding rates are in the single digits, and proposals go through intensive peer review to decide if they're worth the money. You can reject the whole idea of funding basic scientific research, but don't pretend it's some esoteric tangent. Most of human medicine and countless other applications of science and technology would never have arisen without basic research that had no immediate prospects for any application.

This is not a "snail sex study" ... it is a study into the advantages and disadvantages of sexual reproduction and they are using an organism that undergoes both sexual and asexual reproduction as their model. They can compare genetic variability between both types of reproduction within a single species rather than comparing two different organisms. This could lead us to a better understanding as to why sexual reproduction is so favored among higher organisms, as well as a more accurate quantification of how much sexual reproduction enhances genetic variability. These are fundamental biology questions and they are certainly worth investigating.

More importantly... hot sexy snail porn.

Its strange. Quite a few Dem candidates for Governor in 1994 supported ME (It's not SSM)

DCN did as well.

Jason: All legislators make too much money, relative to the effort required.

Do you consider municipal-level commissioners to be legislators? If so, I would disagree.

No. Everyone gets to vote. No one is preferred over another. (Karma ABSOLUTELY should be a moderator but we all agreed to vote.

I'm skeptical of all stories like these. Even if a politicians account isn't hacked, it's far too easy for some low level staffer to do something stupid.

Along the same lines, anybody who gets, and believes, tweets from a politician is kinda stupid too for the same reason. They don't send them out, they have some lowly staffer do it.

If any higher level politician actually does send out some of the irrelevent stupid tweets, they need to be impeached for that reason alone. They obviously have too much time on their hands and aren't doing their job.

Retrocession to Maryland is both fair and with precedent right across the Potomac. Carve out a core non-residential territory that includes all three government branches immediately around the Mall, and that will be the national capital.

Are the electoral college meetings turning into a new forum for whatever issue the electors want to bring up?
