If I were gerrymandering a state, and I gerrymandered three strong contiguous districts for the opposite party, why would I make them ugly? Just make them normal looking; you won't win them anyway.

FWIW, my friends in VA tell me that both candidates are good for Lt Gov but that Herring is by far the better candidate for AG for various experience and campaigns reasons.
Also, since Fairfax lives in Fairfax, if Fairfax wins the AG nomination, we would have two candidates from Fairfax (McAuliffe and Fairfax). Herring is from NOVA but from a different county.
