Pretty soon, it'll be every fertilized egg is a person, so that way they can charge every woman whose ever had a period in her life with murder.

They'll finally have their ultimate fantasies realized: No more women. Just other men together. In the woods. combing each other for ticks.

Dziados actually came to my door over the weekend. I've never had a Congressional candidate actually knock on my door before, so that was pretty cool.

Rochdale has a long history of electing vile people. I suppose it would make sense then for them to put Galloway back in the House.

Yeah, that's the scuttlebutt. There's sort of a tradition in Japanese politics where there's a rebellion like this, where you can't just cross the floor like in England. You have to set up a new party and then that party has to legally merge with the party you want to join. If Maehara was just a lone rebel, he'd have to spend time as an independent before he could join Ishin (if that is his desired aim, and it very well might be given how right wing he is, even though he's always been very anti-LDP, so he's spent most of his career as a member of center-left/liberal parties). But a large scale revolt like this has to be done in this roundabout way. It's just an odd conceit of Japanese politics.

Of course, Maehara's imploded every single party he's joined, so Ishin might be very reluctant to bring him in, too.

Maehara's split another party, this time over the DPP's cooperation with the LDP on legislation, particularly budgetary matters. He took 4 reps and a councillor with him into a new party and has said he's going to cooperate with the opposition.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. It's a travesty he got to make 100.

Yeah, it is. Izumi is probably too far to the right on the CDP side to want to work closely with the JCP, for example. He seems to want to buddy up to the DPP. I guess we'll see what the broad center-left does over the next year.

E Pluribus Unum: の時間ですれいわ新選組!!!!
Obviously the best thing for them would be a continuation of the broad center-left opposition bloc they formed with the CDP in the last election. I think Izumi will probably be willing to continue working with them. They'll probably stand about 15-20 candidates under such an arrangement.

He's in real danger at this point. Japanese PMs tend not to be long serving (Since the war, there have only been 6 PMs to last 4 years in the job, and most don't even make it to year 3) and with polling this bad, there's bound to be some shadow jockeying going on. Kishida's survived a scare or two already, so we'll see if his luck holds.

Gilbert-Dunbar's independent slate was entirely centered around grievances over the Covid-19 vaccine. Her running mate, Peter Antico is attempting to sue the union for siding with studios that fired actors over their refusal to get the vaccine. Also running on that slate for the National Board were Rob Schneider (gag), Elliott Gould, Diane Ladd, and Drew Pinsky. Gould won the very last seat on the national board, but the others were all defeated.

Yep, turnout was very low. Fairly par for the course for this sort of election, and the fact that there just wasn't any television or radio advertising (or if there was, it was minimal). That's usually what the older residents would be relying on to even know there's an election on.

No reason to think that Powell won't win. This is a Democratic district that encompasses the Lawrenceville area (hipster central) of Pittsburgh, plus the less affluent northern suburbs like Millvale, which are still solidly Democratic.

CA Pol Junkie: He might not be running as a Democrat, but he sure sounds like one.

Well, he used to be one. It's interesting that he didn't hit on his more conservative stances like his opposition to abortion.

Tomas: Bob Howard won the GOP nomination through a write in.
He got 10,396 votes.

Not that it'll make any difference, of course.
