BBC Constituency Profile:
Positioned to the east of Liverpool, the seat of Knowsley also includes the towns of Kirkby and Huyton-with-Roby. Big local employers include Jaguar Land Rover, which employs 4,500 people at its Halewood plant. Knowsley BusinessPark, meanwhile, is home to household names including Matalan, Bosch, QVC, Dairy Crest and Virgin Media. In addition, the constituency boasts Knowsley Safari Park, which is popular with families.
Exactly 98% of residents here were born in the UK, which is the second-highest constituency ranking, according to ONS 2011 Census figures for England and Wales.
This constituency was created for the last election and replaced most of the previous Knowsley South seat, as well as parts of Knowsley North and Sefton East in the Knowsley borough. In 2010, George Howarth won 70.9% of the votes for Labour, followed by Liberal Democrats on 13.3%, Conservatives 9% and BNP 4.2%.
