Description

BBC Constituency Profile:

Occupying an area of the south bank of the river Clyde from Finlaystone to the edge of Glasgow, Paisley and Renfrewshire North is a mix of industrial and suburban areas. To the west of the seat are areas like Bishopton and Bridge of Weir, with Linwood - once known for car-production - and the former shipbuilding centre Renfrew in the east.

Paisley is the area's main town, while the biggest local employers include the Braehead shopping centre and business park, and Glasgow Airport, just east of the M8 motorway.

The area, which has seen a number of boundary changes, has a history of electing Labour MPs. The party's Jim Sheridan won the new Paisley and Renfrewshire North seat in 2005, retaining it in 2010 with a 15,280 vote majority.
