BBC Constituency Profile:
The varied Glasgow North constituency ranges from the wealthy and bohemian west end to the genteel Victorian terraces of Kelvinside and the working-class areas of Maryhill and Summerston. It extends north out of the city past the course of the Antonine Wall, taking in the Forth and Clyde Canal, Partick Thistle Football Club, and Glasgow University - Scotland's second oldest higher education institution, which boasts some of the city's finest buildings.
The NHS is a large employer in the area, given the Western Infirmary, based in the west end.
A traditional Labour area, the party's Ann McKechin held the seat by 3,898 votes in the 2010 election.
