| Description |
Angus is one of Scotland's smallest regions yet is steeped in history given one of its towns, Arbroath, was the location where Scotland's declaration of independence was signed in 1320. It is also renowned for producing the world-famous Arbroath smokie - a type of haddock specially dried and cured in a barrel over a wood fire - and is home to the Royal Marines' elite 45 Commando unit.
Sandwiched between Aberdeenshire, Dundee and Perth and Kinross, the constituency of Angus is dominated by farmland, and includes the towns of Montrose, Brechin and Forfar. During the 1850s, half the area's population worked in factories. Today, the constituency supports jobs in engineering, farming, fishing and other sectors.
Angus is traditionally seen as an SNP/Conservative marginal area, and has been represented since 2001 by the SNP's Mike Weir, who held the seat with a 3,282-vote majority in 2010
