BBC Constituency Profile:

Best known for its stunning coastline, most of the Gower constituency's population is found in the urban areas on the outskirts of Swansea. The Gower peninsula was the first area in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its beaches attract holiday-makers including surfers and bird-watchers, and Rhossili Bay's beach was ranked the best in Britain and in the top 10 in the world by Tripadvisor last year.

According to the last census, more people in the constituency work in health and social work than in any other industry, with wholesale and retail a close second. 15.5% of the population speak Welsh.

Labour has held this seat for over a century. The sitting MP, Martin Caton, is standing down in the 2015 election. In 2010 he polled 38.4% of the vote, ahead of the Conservatives on 32%, Liberal Democrats 19.1%, Plaid Cymru 6.6% and UKIP was 6th on 1.6%.
