Description BBC Constituency Profile:

This largely urban constituency nestles on the north eastern coast of Northern Ireland between the Antrim Hills and Belfast Lough. It is dominated by the port of Larne, one of the busiest sea ports in the UK. The other main town is Carrickfergus, which has rebuilt its tourism sector over the years. There is a new marina alongside the Norman castle, one of Northern Ireland's historical attractions.

According to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, the estimated population of East Antrim in 2013 was almost 90,000. It has an older population profile, compared to Northern Ireland as a whole.

At the last census, 70% of people said they were Protestant or other non-Catholic Christian. The MP since 2005 has been Sammy Wilson of the Democratic Unionist Party. In that election, he defeated Roy Beggs of the Ulster Unionist Party, who had held the seat since it was created in 1983.
