BBC Constituency Profile:
This affluent south-west London constituency is best known for the grand slam tennis tournament. A suburban seat, it includes shopping centres, parks and good transport links to central London and Surrey. Houses are expensive, particularly in exclusive Wimbledon Village, and nearly a third of households rent privately. The seat is less affluent towards its southern boundary with Mitcham and Morden.
Nearly 40% of residents are aged 25 to 44, many of whom will work in central London. It has the highest percentage of residents employed in top professional occupations in the country, and the lowest rate of unemployed 16-24-year-olds. Like many London seats, it is ethnically diverse and is home to the Buddhapadipa Temple, the first Buddhist temple in the UK.
Usually a Conservative seat, it was held by Labour from 1997 to 2005. But in 2010 it was the Lib Dems who came second to Conservative Stephen Hammond, who won by 11,408 votes.
