| Description |
Best known as the home of English rugby, Twickenham is an affluent, residential constituency on the banks of the Thames in south-west London. It covers Twickenham, Teddington, Hampton and Whitton and includes Hampton Court Palace and Bushy Park within its boundaries. The Royal Military School of Music is based at Kneller Hall. It enjoys good rail links into central London and is home to many well-off commuters. Nearly a third of residents are aged 25 to 44.
The 2011 Census points to an affluent constituency - 10th highest in England and Wales for residents in "very good health", above average numbers of home owners and relatively little social housing. Nearly half of residents are highly qualified and unemployment is low. It ranks highly for people in the top professions, with few unskilled workers.
Held by the Conservatives before 1997, the Lib Dems' Vince Cable has held it since and increased his majority to 12,140 in 2010.
