Description |
Issue number three, or HJR 1009, is related to term limits, limits on lobbying and elected officials’ salaries.
This constitutional amendment states that a member of the General Assembly shall serve no more than sixteen (16) years, whether consecutive or nonconsecutive. It would also prohibit members of the General Assembly and elected constitutional officers of the Executive department from accepting gifts from lobbyists. In addition, it would prohibit members of the General Assembly from setting their own salaries and the salaries of elected constitutional officers of the Executive department, justices and judges and create an independent citizens commission to set such salaries.
