Apparently, he made a big issue of clan-based nepotism in local politics, implying that Hussain got his job on the City Council and the nomination for this seat on the basis of it. It seems to have resonated with the electorate (presumably, those members of it who aren't in the right clan).
Galloway and his friends have a long record of complaining about that sort of thing while engaging in it themselves.

How. The. Fuck...the swings here don't make a lick of sense. Based on the size of Galloway's take he must have gotten substantial votes from the Conservatives, even.
A lot of the Tory vote last time will have been Asian, of course. But there has been speculation that some white suburban Tories voted for him for the purpose of trolling.

Not a bad idea. If you have no hope of winning the seat yourself, might as well embarrass the main opposition party.

Gotta love the Torygraph. Here's a column crediting Galloway with Norm Coleman's 2008 defeat and, therefore, the passage of Obamacare: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9176248/George-Galloway-You-have-to-salute-his-indefatigability.html
I like Galloway, and even I think that's completely ridiculous.

Hm, looking at his previous election totals, this election is the most votes Galloway has ever received in an election.
