I understand Barca is also planning to run?
There's been speculation, but I'd bet he opts not to run.
I could be wrong, but with Barrett in the race, I think it's going to scare some people from running. Barrett's an easy favorite for a rematch.

My guess is that this will be a Barrett-Mitchell ticket.

Friends- here is the deal. As of tonight there are 4 good Democrats running for Governor. I think the field is set. So here is my request, pick a candidate, support them, work for them, etc. Or don't pick and work with the party till we have a nominee on May 9. Either way, let's not attack our fellow Dems. Each want nothing more than to defeat Walker and heal this state. They are all good people with the right intentions. On May 9 we will have our candidate and providence willing our next Governor. Let's keep it clean and remember the primary process gives us OUR nominee. We will be united against Walker at sun up on May 9. - Mike Tate

I think if the people of Wisconsin were to elect a democrat to replace the current republican governor. I think that it would be more dangerous because the democrats have been known to "work" with republicans many isssues, and this might one them. If the people of Wisconsin were to elect a democrat to the Governor's Mansion, I know the democrat(s) either in the governor's mansion or the state legislature would continue the current governor's anti-worker policys.I say this to the people of Wisconsin "do not elect a democrat or a republican. Elect a candidate who share's your concern and will fight for you!"

An excerpt from a Peter Barca e-mail:
After careful reflection, I have decided not to run for governor in the upcoming recall election. It was a very difficult decision, in no small part because I have been so moved by the emails, calls and requests from so many active, caring citizens like yourself who have been at the forefront of our movement to restore Wisconsin values to our state government. Your passion and compassion for the people of our state has been such an inspiration to me, and I believe all of the elected leaders in the Capitol, as we have been fighting for more than a year against the extreme, divisive agenda of Gov. Walker.

Yes, and considering that Obama's people are helping Barrett, I would say we can take him for his word.

I doubt most (any?) of these people would have announced if there was any chance Feingold would run.

Falk might have, since she strikes me as being about as human as excelsior's histrionic descriptions of Hillary Clinton, but she obviously wouldn't have had a chance against him.

While Barrett deservedly gets called out for being a lackluster candidate, he's still be the safest bet for the Democrats so far. 46% in the worst year to be a Democrat since 1938 is still not that bad, at least on paper.
Of course, I'm still going to be skeptical of the recall's chance of success as long as Walker's approval ratings only remain sort of bad as opposed to being outright putrid a la Gray Davis. The point is, there's a higher floor with Barrett than Falk or any of the other jokers in this race.

I think it's jerky for Barrett to run for re-election.
I mean ... he wants to leave the job anyway so why bother run and cost the city a special election if he wins?

The wave in Wisconsin was something more on the order of 1994 or a generic first-Presidential-midterm thrashing than the kind of thrashing the Democrats took in some other regions in 2010. Democrats did lose a lot of things here, but they were by margins like 4%, 8%, and 12%, not 25%.

couldn't they just hold the special election at the same time as the August Primary/November Election, thus no significant extra cost (aside from putting the race on a ballot)?

As long as the law allows them the flexibility, the GAB always tries to schedule elections in a way that would be cheapest.
When Barrett ran in 2010, they had tentative plans to hold a primary for Mayor in Feb with the general election in April, both during the normally scheduled Spring elections.
I expect the timing would work out to use August and November.

Are we sure it's not just a hoax? I would think an candidacy announcement video from him would consist, at least in part, of video announcing he's running, rather than clips from news appearances and speeches.

Copying from the video, since it should be deleted:
Of course it's fake. I made it. And I'm not even that good at this stuff.
But I thought this site missed out on April Fool's day. (I'm looking at you, RParker). Consider it a slightly belated prank for the site.
But no, Feingold is not running. This is just an intro vid they did for him at a Democratic Party meeting in Milwaukee, slightly modified.

La Follette will probably fail to make the ballot. From his Facebook page:
LAST FEW DAYS
I have begun to receive some Nom Papers in the mail--
But, most of them only have 1 or 2 names on them; this way we will never get the 3,000 we need. Even if 300 people sent them this way it would only be about 500 names.
I feel bad that I did not make it more clear that folks had to collect 25 or more to reach our goal. I am very sorry.
I have been getting 100+ myself each day but even this will not reach 3,000 without your help.
Please download the papers from my New website--douglafollette.com get as many names as you can and after signing at the bottom mail them as soon as possible [no later than Sat morn] to my address in wording at the top.
Thank you, Doug
Also, Gladys Huber should piss up a f*cking rope.
