Description |
This was the first election for Lt. Governor in NC. Caldwell became the Governor on 12/15/1870 following the impeachment of Gov. Holden, and the office of Lt. Gov. was vacant until 1873.
The Conservative Party executive committee nominated Hall for Lt. Governor around 3/1/1868 along with a full state ticket.
Goodloe's Independent Republican slate was first announced on 4/1/1868 with William R. Cox as the nominee for Lt. Governor. Cox declined to run and was substituted with Mendenhall on 4/16/1868.
