I doubt Kean Jr. would challenge Corzine for the same reason I dount Mark Warner will challenge Curious George Allen-not much reason to challenge an incumbent when there will probably be an open seat two years later.

I hate almost all NJ officals, I think good number of them should be put in jail for corruption. I'm glad I don't live in this state, where half of my freaking tax money pays off the mob!

On top of the other obstacles Republicans have in this state, they have the added problem that if it appears Corzine is in trouble a few weeks before election day, the Dems will pull him and get another candidate.

They didn't have anyone worthwhile to replace Torricelli, but that didn't stop them.

The dems don't need a strong candidate in NJ. They could run a corpse, and as long as he has a name and a D next to his name, they would win.

Not only has Corzine had an impressive brief career in the senate, he has near unlimited funding. He is very likely to win re-election. I consider Lautenberg to be very worthwhile, He is been successful in every field he has involved himself with from buisness to politics to charitable work.

Corzine is a liberal Democrat in a Democratic leaning state who happens to also be a businessman with more money than the Catholic Church who is also emerging as a leader in the party so how is he NOT at least Semi-Safe and who the heck is the GOP gonna run against him?

Tom Kean Jr. can have any office he wants huh? lol A couple of state Senator's and a backbench congressman is not the most impressive field of potential candidates.

Corzine is the type of person who polarizes the electorate, and will win by close margins.

I'm not saying that Tom Kean Jr. isn't a solid potential candidate, but to say that he can have any office he wants defies logic. Also, if he wants to get elected to the US Senate or Governor, it's unlikely he can do it from the state senate. Virtually any solid Republican would beat McGreevey today, but that is a big difference from beating him on election day.

Corzine won by such a small margin because people were understandably outraged at his treatment of democracy. The New York Times endorsed Franks! But now he's a Senator, and one who has worked quite hard for New Jersey (against his personal financial interests I might add). He will be seen as such, just like other guys who bought their seats, like Kohl, Rockefeller, and Lautenberg himself. The George Allen won't throw money down that toilet.
