Description BBC Profile:
The Labour Party has held this seat for decades and current MP, Helen Jones, has won more than 50% of the total vote in each of the past three elections. In 2005, she secured a majority of 12,204 over all the other candidates.

At the election, the seat gains the part-ward of Fairfield and Howley from Warrington South, in exchange for the part-wards of Bewsey and Whitecross and Whittle Hall. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

This north Cheshire constituency contains the inner-city core of the industrial town of Warrington, just north of the Mersey.

There is a surprising number of high-income families in Warrington North, making up around one in five of the population, but they are outnumbered by low-rise council tenants, who make up nearly a quarter of the population, double that of Warrington South.

Regeneration of the Wire Works development on Winwick Road will transform the north side of the town centre with the construction of retail outlets, bars, apartments and a multi-screen cinema.
