Description |
BBC Profile:
Labour's George Howarth has been an MP in this area since 1986, although the boundaries of the constituency have changed several times in recent years. In the old seat of Knowsley North and Sefton East he polled more than 63% of the vote in 2005, giving him a majority of 16,269.
At the election, this new Merseyside seat connects the majority of the old Knowsley North and Sefton East seat with areas from neighbouring Crosby, which is no longer a constituency. Crosby's MP Claire Curtis-Thomas is standing down.
To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
This creates a socially mixed seat, as the constituency comprises two very separate entities. Major employers in the constituency include Kodak and News International.
The constituency is also home to Aintree racecourse, home of the Grand National.
Rallings & Thrasher Notional:
Lab 18,776 (45.60%)
C 13,826 (33.58%)
LD 7,915 (19.22%)
Others 356 (0.86%)
UKIP 306 (0.74%)
