Description BBC Profile:
Totnes has remained a Tory seat for the past 60 years. Anthony Steen has been its MP since 1983. Before that the area was represented by Ray Mawby for 28 years.

In 2001 Mr Steen increased his majority of 3,597 while the Labour vote fell to just over 12%. In 2005 the Liberal Democrats won back some of the support they lost in 2001 but it was not enough to defeat the incumbent, who was returned with a reduced majority of 1,947.

There are minor boundary changes to this seat. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Situated in south Devon, Totnes takes in the town of Dartmouth on the coast and Dartmoor further inland.

The market town of Totnes lies in the centre of the constituency, surrounded by small towns and villages such as South Brent. There is a considerable amount of agricultural land here, with coastal towns stretching right down to Prawle Point in the south and Brixham in the north.

Most of the constituency's income comes from tourism, supported by fishing and farming. The South West Coast Path is a particular tourist attraction for the whole of the South West peninsula.
