Description

BBC Profile:
Conservative James Clappison has held the seat since 1992, when he recorded a majority of 18,966. This was cut in subsequent elections, but in 2005 his majority more than doubled to more than 11,000.

There are no boundary changes affecting this seat.

Hertsmere is in the south of Hertfordshire, just north of London and is typical commuter terrain. The major settlements are Elstree, Radlett, Borehamwood, Bushey and Potters Bar.

Hertsmere is well served by the A1(M), M1 and M25, as well as train links to Kings Cross and Euston, and as a result, is home to many significant companies. T-Mobile, Pinnacle Insurance, Adecco Alfred Marks and Pizza Hut all have their head offices in the constituency.

However, the constituency is not dependent on administrative and managerial work. Grunwick Processing Laboratories (Bonus Print) and part of the National Blood Transfusion Service, for example, are based here. The Elstree Film Studios, as well as Millennium and Hillside Studios are also to be found within the constituency.
