Description BBC Profile:
The Conservative Tim Yeo began his tenure as MP for Suffolk South in 1983 after a selection battle with the sitting Conservative MP Keith Stainton. Stainton had represented the seat under previous boundary changes for 20 years. Yeo secured a majority of 11,269 at the 1983 election.

This was cut to 4,175 votes at the 1997 election, but in 2005 he recorded a 6,600 vote majority.

At the election, boundary changes will see South Suffolk lose no wards and gain the part-ward of Cavendish from West Suffolk. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

Suffolk South is a rural seat centred around Sudbury, the areas largest town. It takes in the scenic area around the river Stour popularly known as 'Constable country' and runs along much of the Essex boundary.

The area is famous for its picturesque villages, which have attracted affluent second-home buyers, and is home for commuters to Ipswich, Cambridge and London.

Local industry is sparse. A proportion of the area's workforce is employed in the manufacturing sector, which is locally characterised by engineering facilities and agricultural processing.

Sudbury is home to Delphi Automotive Systems and Reliant Cars are made under licence in the town.
