Current MP, Conservative Charles Walker secured over 50% of the vote at the 2005 election, inheriting the seat from Dame Marion Roe, who had held the seat since 1983.

There are no boundary changes affecting this seat.

In the heart of the Lea valley, Broxbourne lies in a predominantly urban corner of southeast Hertfordshire. Most of its population is based in a thin strip of commuter towns and villages running up the western side of the river Lea, and the seat includes places such as Waltham Cross, Cheshunt, Wormley, Broxbourne itself, Hoddesdon and Rye Park.

The seat's good transport links and its proximity to London make it popular with business and commuters alike.

Major employers in the constituency include the headquarters of Tesco and the pharmaceutical company Merck Sharpe & Dohme. Small businesses are, however, the biggest source of employment and the constituency is home to a number of computer and light manufacturing industries.
