Description BBC Profile:
Faversham and Mid Kent has had a short and unvaried electoral history, becoming Kent's 17th seat just in time for the 1997 general election. Andrew Rowe took the seat for the Conservatives, with a majority of 4,173. Mr Rowe, having served in the old Mid Kent seat since the 1980s, did not run for another term.

His replacement Hugh Robertson increased the majority by 10 votes to 4,183 in 2001. In 2005 the incumbent more than doubled his majority to 8,720.

At the election, Faversham and Mid Kent gains a ward and a part ward from Maidstone and the Weald, and loses a part-ward each to Maidstone and the Weald and Sittingbourne and Sheppey. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

The region has a long pedigree in fruit farming and this is the only seat left in England where it is the predominant agricultural type, particularly around the medieval market town of Faversham where the majority of fruit farms are based.

Larger local firms include Faversham-based Shepherd Neame, the oldest family-owned brewery in England.
