BBC Profile:
The seat was taken from the Conservatives by Labour at the 1997 general election with one of the largest swings in the country.
However, in 2001 it was won by independent candidate Dr Richard Taylor, a retired consultant rheumatologist, who campaigned to preserve services provided by Kidderminster Hospital. Following the withdrawal of the local Liberal Democrat candidate, Dr Taylor achieved a majority of 17,630.
He held the seat in 2005 with a majority of 5,250.
Boundary changes have made the seat coterminous with Wyre Forest District Council. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
Wyre Forest is a mixture of urban and rural areas in Worcestershire. It comprises the three towns of Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley and takes its name from the Forest of Wyre at the western side of the constituency.
Kidderminster is a medium-sized industrial town, famous for manufacturing carpets, which still plays an important part in the local economy with a number of industrial parks and trading centres.
Stourport is more picturesque, situated on the banks of the river Severn and reliant on tourism for its income. However, much of the seat is made up of small rural villages.
