Description |
BBC Profile:
Warley replaced the old Warley East seat in 1997. It has been held since then by Labours John Spellar, who recorded a 10,147-vote majority at the 2005 general election.
Boundary changes see Old Warley, St Pauls, Langley and Smethwick wards consolidated in this seat. The acquisition of all of St Pauls and Langley has extended Warley fairly substantially in its north-western corner. Meanwhile, chunks of Oldbury went to West Bromwich West and Blackheath to Halesowen and Rowley Regis. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
Warley is just outside the western border of Birmingham. The area now has a multi-racial population. The seat is very similar to the constituencies it borders within the city. It is an economically deprived area.
There are significant numbers of ethnic communities, a large number of whom are from the Indian sub-continent.
Rallings & Thrasher Notional:
Lab 19,232 (54.91%)
C 8,026 (22.91%)
LD 4,635 (13.23%)
Others 2,398 (6.85%)
UKIP 735 (2.10%)
