Description BBC Profile:
The Tamworth constituency was created, largely from the old Staffordshire South East seat, in 1997. Since then, it has been held by Brian Jenkins, for Labour, who, in 1997, defeated Lady Lightbown, the widow of the former long-serving Conservative MP for Staffordshire South East, Sir David Lightbown.

There are no boundary changes affecting this seat.

A constituency in the south-east of Staffordshire about 15 miles northeast of Birmingham, Tamworth comprises the town and some rural areas to its north and west.

The town centre has a quarter of historic buildings, but there are also tower blocks that sprang up to accommodate its burgeoning population.

The town itself, despite having tripled its population in the last 40 years, is not quite large enough to fill the constituency, which needed the addition of 16,000 rural electors to bring it up to full strength. It is one of Birmingham's satellite towns, nestling in the crook of the M42/A5 interchange, and its rural hinterland stretches to the north and west.

As in many West Midlands constituencies, manufacturing industry was historically very strong.

Tamworth has its own place in political history, being associated with Sir Robert Peel's 1834 Tamworth Manifesto, the first statement of principles ever issued by a political party on the eve of a general election.
