Description BBC Profile:
Ynys Mon was held for three decades by Labour's Cledwyn Hughes until the Conservatives gained it in 1979, when Mrs Thatcher came to power. They held the seat in 1983 but Tory MP Keith Best stood down in 1987 and his replacement, Roger Evans lost to Plaid Cymru's Ieuan Wyn Jones in 1987. He retained it with narrow majorities over the Conservatives in 1992 and Labour in 1997.
Labour gained the seat from Plaid Cymru at the 2001 general election by a majority of 800. In 2005 Labour's Albert Owen increased his majority to 1,242.

There are no boundary changes affecting this seat.

Ynys Mon (Isle of Anglesey) is the largest island off the coast of England and Wales. The constituency also includes the smaller Holy Island. Separated by the Menai Strait from the coast of North Wales, it is linked by two historic bridges to the mainland.

The main town is Holyhead, which is a major port for transport across the Irish Sea.

Anglesey Aluminium, which was the largest manufacturing employer on the island, closed in September 2009. Tourism is an important industry. Most of the 125 miles of coastline is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or Heritage Coast.
