Description |
The 2d Populist Party National Convention assembled in the Auditorium in St. Louis MO. The delegates made the unusual decision of voting for a VP nominee before choosing a presidential nominee. It has been thought that this unusual course of action was taken in order to secure the nomination of an alternate choice for VP, as the party wanted to endorse the Democratic candidate for President (William J. Bryan) but not the Democratic nominee for VP (Arthur Sewall).
The convention nominated William J. Bryan for President as shown here and Thomas E. Watson GA for VP.
