The 1st Populist Party National Convention assembled in the Convention Hall Coliseum in Omaha NE. There were 1,300 delegates present.
The Populist Party was formed in 1891 to foster the interests of agriculture against the growing power of railroads.
The national convention nominated James B. Weaver IA for President as shown here. James G. Field VA was nominated for President over Benjamin S. Terrell TX by a vote of 733-554.
