The best time to be popular is election day. But the second best time to be popular is when your opponents are deciding whether to run.

It's quite possible that this monster lead is temporary, due to the recency of the hurricane and his party line-breaking kind words about Obama just before the election. But I have always seen Christie winning a second term, and see no reason to doubt that now.

A year out, the post-Sandy bump is more important for its scaring off potential first-tier opponents than it permanency anyway.

Christie is destroying all the potential democratic candidates. I highly doubt any serious candidate would be dumb enough to challenge him.

This isn't really a surprise, but again this is Christie's Race to lose, if continues with this new found tone he's probably got re-election in the bag.

Even Frank Lautenberg was heaping praise against Christie in the papers, stating that he doesn't think the man can be beaten. That's pretty telling, especially given what a cranky, awful, partisan old man Lautenberg is.

Does Bono seem the likely nominee if Sweeney or Booker don't run?

I don't think Bono is going to be the nominee, he still hasn't found what he's looking for.

I think the rules should be changed (or some sort of Christie codicil enacted) so I can multiple endorse here!!

Oh come on. Asking to endorse him multiple times is just begging for a fat joke. Do you really want to go down that road?

The seatbelt curse will now claim a second person.

If you don't wear it, you will run in a race and lose to a fat man.

Is it possible Buono's running here so she can make a play as the gutsy, liberal warrior in the 2014 Senate primary?

Amusingly, given how Democratic this state is, an incumbent Dem governor has not been RE-ELECTED since 1977. Understandably too as NJ Democratic governors are universally atrocious!

And The Christie will almost certainly be the third REPUBLICAN NJ Guv re-elected since '77.

Wonder what it's gotta be like in the 24 member NJ State Senate Democratic caucus when it appears now that you have a sitting Dem Senator endorsing Christie over one of your colleagues.

The report also indicates his Assemblyman runningmates are endorsing Christie also. [Link]

Christie is the kind of Republican people would like to vote for a lot more, he's one of the few sane Republicans left and I pray that he never ever goes the way of John McCain, a guy who pretty much was the same as Christie and then he sold his soul to the far-right of his party to get nominated. Christie speaks his mind and he comes across as a guy you probably could get along with outside of politics, they are very important qualities to have and that's why he's the most electable Republican in that party.

If posts like the one above are indicative of casual liberal thinking, it's quite the turnaround in Christie's image compared to his first year or two in office.

I can't help thinking that Christie's image has improved partly because the
Republican Party's image is so bad and Christie did not move in their direction. He doesn't seem that different now from four years ago.
