The second Democratic National Convention was held in the First Presbyterian Church building in Baltimore MD. The convention was attended by over 600 delegates from 22 states and the territories of Arkansas and Michigan.

Martin Van Buren was nominated for President unanimously on the first ballot. Richard M. Johnson KY was nominated for Vice President on the first ballot with 178 votes against 87 votes for William C. Rives VA.
